National Lottery funding was granted for
Village Hall improvements
In February 2020 an application for a grant under the National Lottery Awards Scheme for the village hall was successful and we were awarded £10,000 to help fund proposed improvement works. The money has gone towards a set of energy conservation works including double glazing, LED lighting and improved roof insulation. As a result, users of the hall in Winter should enjoy lower energy bills and a warmer environment, while Summer users should enjoy greater comfort through better ventilation.
The Committee would like to thank all
National Lottery players for your support
In July 2020 The Hall’s LED lighting was upgraded throughout.
In October 2020 planning permission was granted for the full double-glazing of the building windows and this work was completed during the half-term break in October 2020.
In April 2021 the suspended ceiling above the main hall and stage area was replaced and now has new ceiling tiles and fiberglass insulation throughout.
Since then…………

After a survey in 2023 it was decided that the hall floor needed replacing. A new oak wooden floor was laid and the job was completed on 2nd August.
The new floor is 21mm thick (15mm tongue and groove plywood with a 6mm oak veneer). It has an oiled matt finish and maintenance consists of a light re-oiling once per year. The total cost of the project was £7313.60 and the old pine flooring was collected for recycling.
In August 2024
The kitchen was refurbished with new units, fridges, cooker and dishwasher and in the main hall curtains were replace throughout.

Time Capsule
One interesting little artefact was discovered under the old floor. An old-style wooden matchbox, which although empty, was found to contain two names and a date written by hand inside. These appear to read ‘J.Lachett’ and ‘W. Head’ together with the date July 1909. We know from records that the Hall was built in 1909, so one could imagine that these persons were workmen having a smoke who decided on the spur of the moment to leave a little informal record for future generations to find 114 years later! One wonders how things worked out for them as World War One was then only five years in the future.
